WB is already planning on making a second Minecraft movie after the first one's money success.

Update to The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie

Surprisingly, the film managed to recover its budget of $15 million.  It hit $15.1 million in sales.  Obviously not a smash hit, but it's nice to at least went even.  Reviews are positive for the film.

On the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, 86% of 104 critics' reviews are positive. The website's consensus reads: "Restoring much of Looney Tunes' quintessential charm with a daffy dose of high energy and inventive gags, The Day the Earth Blew Up goes to show that these iconic characters remain evergreen fun." Metacritic, which uses a weighted average, assigned the film a score of 69 out of 100, based on 15 critics, indicating "generally favorable" reviews. Audiences polled by CinemaScore gave the film an average grade of "B+" on an A+ to F scale, while those surveyed by PostTrak gave it an 89% overall positive score, with 72% saying they would "definitely recommend" it.

Peter Debruge of Variety praised the film for its comedy and emotional core, and felt that the entire project was "crafted with love and a genuine respect for the franchise". Rafael Motomayor of IGN awarded the film a 9- out of 10-star rating. He praised its comedy, emotional core, animation and Bauza's voice performances, and referred to it as "one of the funniest movies of the year".

Okay, so they're going to have to go the extra mile to erase people's memories of that execrable version with the usually solid Mike Myers.
Quote
A film adaptation of The Cat in the Hat Comes Back was planned as a sequel to The Cat in the Hat (2003), but after the first film's critical failure, Geisel's widow Audrey Geisel decided not to allow any more live-action adaptations of her husband's works.
Pity.  I admit I'd rather have liked to see the progression of tinier and tinier cats coming out of the C-Man's hat.  For the final cat,  I picture something rather Tex Avery-ish.  "Uncle LOOOOOOOUIIIIIIEEEEE-eeeee!"

I guess the positive here is at least they are going the animation route.  The live action one with Mike Meyers was atrocious and viewership showed it.  There are just things done better with animation.

Agreed...  Also, Dr. Seuss wrote a lot more than The Cat in the Hat, How The Grinch Stole Christmas, and Green Eggs And Ham.  Just sayin'.  Maybe there's sticky legal issues behind it, I realize that, but do we really need to see the same books re-adapted two or three different times over the last twenty years? Maybe a Lorax or a Horton project drops once in a blue moon?  At my blog I mentioned an idea I've had for an adaptation of The Seven Lady Godivas, a fairly obscure bit of Seuss oeuvre that he all but disowned. Someone, conceivably, could forego the wait 'til the book becomes public domain in 2034 and just buy the rights for pennies on the dollar now.      ....Maybe.

Yes, Seuss did draw some naughty stuff. I remember learning about it in some documentary one time. ;D They never make that stuff.

He also had one called "The Pocket Book of Boners".  In those days, it meant mistakes....    ;D

Here's a nice vid I found of someone reading the Godivas book, if you don't mind a few booger jokes.  Aw, look who I'm talkin' to ovuh here....

"And I know why."  I'm afraid to ask what was implied there....         :-]

I'll hold back judgement on the new CitH movie, but after seeing that lousy Max-focused Grinch play, my hopes aren't too high.     :'(

I have heard that the new Scooby Doo spinoff "Velma" has been getting really terrible reviews.  Is it that bad?

Still haven't seen it, but this sketch from a satirical program called Sugar and Toys actually predicted a black Velma and an Asian Daphne by four years.

Plus, "Scoobity" looks a lot like Scooby-Dum, doesn't he...?

Okay... if you thought that was bad... Haven't seen this one either, but the poster is pure cringe....

And here I thought BatWheels was WBA's latest greatest way of hitchin' down their britches and defecating on Bill Finger and Bob Kane's graves....   P>>

Looks like a show that will quickly be forgotten.

That probably would have been on Cartoon Network if that channel didn't implode.

Speaking of reboots, there was this forgotten 2017 reboot of Wacky Races.  It is was very self-referential as shown here and pretty corny, but pretty funny.  It ties in as it was made by Warner Brothers Animation and on Boomerang.  The show seemed very certain that no one actually watched it and their rating were terrible. They saw the future.  Somehow this show had 78 episodes and no one knew it existed. Also Billy West's voice is so noticeable.

Repeats appeared on Cartoon Network in 2018, but again, no one noticed.
