Big Ratings For ‘King Of The Hill

A pillar of animated comedy from the late ’90s and early 2000s is proving that nostalgia, and strong storytelling still pack a ratings punch. King of the Hill is showing that it is not only alive but thriving, delivering some of the biggest numbers in streaming and cable this year.

Hulu’s revival of King of the Hill is off to a blockbuster start. The long-awaited 14th season of Mike Judge and Greg Daniels’ acclaimed sitcom debuted on August 4, drawing 4.4 million views in its first week, according to Variety. That figure marks the largest adult animated season premiere across Hulu and Disney+ in the past five years. The premiere episode, “Return of the King,” quickly topped Hulu’s charts and has remained in the platform’s top five ever since.

The enthusiasm extends beyond new episodes: viewership of the original 13 seasons has surged by 26 million hours, a 41% increase, since promotional efforts began in March. On social media, the series has outpaced all other Hulu original comedies this year in engagement and growth.

King of the Hill is proving that there is significant audience demand for heritage animated content. That’s been clear in the theatrical space for years, with sequels, prequels, and spinoffs overloading the box office, and now it seems to be true for TV, too.

KING OF THE HILL RENEWED FOR MORE SEASONS

King of the Hill is returning to Hulu and Hulu on Disney+ for season 15 on July 20. Season 15 will have 10 all-new episodes, with the show's July premiere date coming almost a year after King of the Hill season 14, the first installment since the show's revival, was released on Hulu in August 2025.

The series was a huge hit for the streamer, drawing 4.4 million viewers in its first week and making it Hulu and Disney+'s highest-rated adult animated show in the past five years. The show earning an impressive 98% score on Rotten Tomatoes following its season 14 premiere.

Season 15 is just the tip of the iceberg, with King of the Hill set to be renewed for two more seasons — seasons 16 and 17 — which will consist of 20 episodes total. That means the show could run through to 2028, assuming one season is released every year.

Well, the old cast is the same, but a few of the voices are new.  We don't get to hear much of Dale's new voice, and John Redcorn is noticeably absent from the trailer.  Kahn's had a new actor since Hollywood's big post-George Floyd crisis of conscience, though Mike Judge voiced Hank's Japanese half-brother in his last appearance, rather than an actor of color, so there's hope there. Nice to see Bobby and Connie coupley at last, too. Still hoping to get  a mention of Lucky and Luanne and what they've been up to... Their daughter Gracie would just be a couple or three years younger than G.H., by my calculations--here's hoping she'll turn up.

I did enjoy seeing the Stricklin Propane gang. I got a feeling Hank is going to come back and help them in some way.

I feel they aren't going to mention Lucky and Luanne. It would be nice to get a nod. With Hank working on 'Big Tex' in the trailer, they last were at that location with Luanne. It was a huge moment in their relationship. Wild if he doesn't at least think of her and that day.

I'm on episode 5 of season 15.  I enjoy this. The animation has definitely smoothed out and is improved over season 14.
