Studying simple stuff while doing other stuff is pretty easy to do, so normally I'd be "REAPU, STUDY-ERU" but since it's more simple stuff

Alright.  Remember, YOU are the one who makes the difference in your schooling.

I know you didn't want me to say that, but I figured I would say it because I care.  if you can study and chat, great. :)

So what exactly are you studying?  Care to share it with me in a mini synopsis?  (Totally not helping you study ;) )

Pharmacology at the moment. Just early lecture stuff before I get into the antibiotic groups and subgroups and antifungal groups and subgroups. And antiviral groups. And anti parasitic groups and subgroups. And antiseptics, and disineftants, THEY'RE DIFFERENT! So right now studying pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics. And regulations and generic stuff before getting into the nitty gritty.

Wow, sounds like a lot of stuff.  So what is the difference between pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics?  You can answer so we can understand that. ;)

Riiight :P
Well pharmacodynamics just describes the role of concentration gradients, the drug bindings to proteins, and the physical and chemical properties of the drug. Pharmacokinetics is what happens to the drug once it's administered. And there's 4 steps of drug movement. Absorption, distribution, metabolism, and exception (that doesn't just mean in the feces :P)

So pharmacodynamics is the make up and pharmacokinetics is the reaction?

What is an example of an antifungal subgroup within the study of pharmacology?

Basically, Silver.

Well, there's many groups of antifungal medications, each with its own subgroups. But a subgroup of say Polyene agents would be Nystatin. Which is only administered orally or topically. It's mainly used for skin infections and crop disease in birds. It's one of the few antifungal a with minimal side effects.

Hmm.  Thanks, LP.  So i take it there are several subgroups within each "group?" of medications?

So what does distribution mean for a drug within the body?  How is that different then absorption?

Yes, some groups have 2, others have as many as 5. It all depends. Different variations of the drug I suppose. Like sulfur based drugs.

Absorption is the movement into the systemic circulation from the site of administration. Distribution would be the movement of drugs by concentration gradients; movement from plasma to interstitium to target cell and redistribution. Pregnancy causes increase in distribution with increases half life.

Oh very good.  Very interesting too about the differences.  Would you mind defining what interstitium fluid is?  Do humans have interstitium fluid?
