Yeah, a good river and a lake nearby.  We would have to harvest fish to keep them coming in our lake.

Our cabins would be close to each other, within site of one another.  But we could build side hunting cabins for further travel.  If we are close to each other, it is safer.

Yes, that makes sense.  We would be our own army.

Save the guns for extreme measures of defense.

I like Wolf's idea of a cabin in a tree.  Just have to worry about the tree aging and storms though.

It would be a light fort strewn out as to not place too much weight in any one area.

We should draw up a mock up of this complex or make it in Minecraft.

We would have to make a shipping vessel for the lake.  Either a man made boat we take care of, or build a raft of our own.

We can probably bring ourselves a dingy or a row boat.

Wheelbarrows and hand tools are important too.  A source of fresh water besides the stream and lake too.

The tree fort would have a rain filtration system that uses the natural leaves and flows into a barrel into the fort.

Very good.  All of our homes can have rain water collectors too.

What about a place to store our fresh meat?

Some would be stored in a cache above ground to keep it away from animals, but some could be kept cool in an underground dugout cache, maybe under someone's cabin for protection.
