No, 12 is not normal.

I didn't know they could make YOU do overtime for the job you do.  Isn't their sleep requirements?

Just over 9 hours for me today.  So a little overtime.  It stinks, especially if you got plans, but you will love your paycheck.

They can only hold you up to 2 hours extra except in an emergency.   People called out sick, I had to cover the overlap for the next shift.
