You'd have a better chance having a show made in Vancouver, BC.  That's where all the new cartoons are being animated. 


But you can't just go someplace with no leads or people in the know and have a show.  It doesn't work that way.  Otherwise everyone in the world will have had their own show done. 


I would love to go to LA and say I wanted to animate and I have a show for them, but it just doesn't work like that.

Yeah man. Sorry but like, that dream is uh... Yeah.
 You had to have started in the business young to have worked your way up. Unfortunately it's how that business works. Newcomers aren't really going to be able to get their foots in the door.

I hate to say that but, it's a sad truth. People like Lauren Faust and Craig worked hard and long to get to the point of creating their own shows. And that's also in part because they can art.

It's like if I wanted to become a pro golfer... I should have started at age 6.  If I wanted to become a pro racer car driver, I should have started at 11.

It also helps in the business of cartoons if you can create and draw your own characters.  It is a real hands on career... until the network says no to all your ideas and does it their own way making your idea, their idea.

I'm really sorry Blurr. But even friends in that business say it's incredibly hard to work your way up there. It's nothing against you. It's just... Unfortunately the reality of the situation and business there. We're not trying to make you feel bad. But we also don't want you to go there and have it not work out and you be SOL.

Hey Blurr, read this...

My friend's dream since he was a kid was to work in film and be a director.  He went to a well known film college and got certified, and has since worked in a few local music videos and television commercials, but he even admits, it is nearly impossible to get a job unless you know someone, and he has even started realizing he needs to have an actual job, because he can't pay to live his dream, and his dream is hard to obtain.

BUT... he's still trying and he hasn't given up.

Exactly what MasterXtreme was telling you earlier about not quitting on these long hours, and how you get stronger from these hard situations, the same would apply with trying to follow your dream.

I am trying to live my dream, and I have achieved a small piece of it, creating cartoons for people enjoy.  It's not a big tv production like I had hoped, but I am way happier choosing my own stories without a studio making me do their bidding and following networks.  Mine costs no money, granted I don't have as big an audience, but I get to talk directly with fans, and it is a dream come true to me.

Unlikely doesn't mean impossible.  There is still that chance.

But you also want to go in with realistic expectations too.  So few people are noticed for their work.  It looks Adventure Time like four times being rejected before a network picked it up, even though the guy had experience with other shows.  So there is still always that small chance.

But yeah see, your friend went to a school and everything. And even then it's hard as piss. You have to have connections and make new ones. It's what going to school for that stuff helps. If you just walk in off the street chances just aren't as good.

And even the writers of MLP have said that it's hard to make a living off writing for cartoons. They need other jobs, it's why Amy went to Disney, because they pay significantly more and she needs that money. It's a hard dream to live off of and its just very hard. Even for people who worked since they were kids for that dream.

But you can't go into something without knowing the negatives.  You can't go in ignoring them and hitting rock bottom if plans don't work out.


Life isn't like the movies.  You can be confident and positive, but also be prepared if things don't work out.
