One of my favorite things about Christmas is walking about town looking at the decorations in people's yards. One end of town really goes all in on ornate light displays; the other seems prefer inflatables--everything from Santa Clauses to elves and reindeer to a festive Mickey and Minnie Mouse. One of my favorites is the place that's got a blow-up Santa seated atop a great big bouncy house. One year a mooring rope supporting him came loose, so Santa was tilted sharply to one side--it looked like he was breaking wind down the chimney.
"Here's your present, little Suzie. Oh, you know what you did to deserve that, you ho-ho-ho'." It's barely three days after Christmas, and everybody's already taken their light displays down--the bank, the CPA's office, the hardware store, the community center. Back to business so fast? A bit Grinchy, don't you think? At least leave 'em out 'til the day after New Year's, how 'bout it.
