Lol!
Experts agree: GTA 6 will cause a workplace phenomenon in the U.S. on November 19, and some companies are already taking action
Grand Theft Auto VI will cause a major work stoppage at companies on November 19: some companies are already warning that they will not be open that day.
Rarely has a video game generated anticipation comparable to that of Grand Theft Auto VI. Both analysts and economic experts have been hailing it for months as the entertainment industry’s biggest release of 2026, with an impact that will extend far beyond the world of video games. In fact, some U.S. companies have already begun preparing for its release date, November 19, announcing several months in advance that they will be closed that day due to the expected high number of employee absences. The GTA 6 phenomenon is already affecting several U.S. companies: some will close on November 19
More than ten years after the original release of Grand Theft Auto V (2013), its sequel, Grand Theft Auto VI, has established itself as one of the most anticipated titles of all time. Anticipation surrounding Rockstar Games’ new, monumental project has continued to grow for years, fueled in large part by its lengthy development period and successive release delays, to the point where its launch on November 19 has become one of the most significant events in the video game industry—not just for 2026, but for the entire decade.
One example of this involves Burger Motorsports, company specializing in car tuning and parts, which has announced a temporary hiatus from all its activities to coincide with the game’s launch. In a statement sent to employees and customers, the company explains that several employees have already indicated that on that day they will be “unavailable, unreachable, and/or in Vice City”—a reference to the fictional city based on Miami where GTA 6 is set—and will therefore resume their work once they have “completed theur initial exploration, finished at least one mission and returned to reality.”
Although the ad clearly has a humorous tone, it’s a very telling example of just how much the launch of GTA 6 extends beyond the realm of video games. In recent months, numerous analysts have warned that Rockstar’s title will shape the planning of much of the industry, with publishers delaying or moving up their releases to avoid competing with it. And the case of Burger Motorports shows that this influence is also beginning to be felt outside the video game industry.
