Researching Twilight: plots of our county .

Lore dump!  The map that is visible shows Eastern Cascade State.  You can see references to real life Washington such as the Missionary Mission location being where Walla Walla would be.  Famous for the Whitman Mission back in the 1800s.  Spomane's location (which Twi and Lawrence visited) fits in nicely with where real world Spokane is located in the real world state of Washington. The mountains shown is what separates the state's two environmental bio regions.  Western and Eastern. The map shows the Eastern part of the state.  Note Ponyville does not exist yet, and is also not part of Eastern Cascade State, which is why it is not on the map.

The lore of how Ponyville became the County Seat of Mare County is very similar to how many county seats in the US were formed.  A battle between towns trying to outcompete with one another.  Often it came down to a vote or just one town having better infrastructure.

How Twilight talks with the clerk, it sounds like she isn't in Ponyville in this episode.  She might be IN THE TOWN of Hoofwood.  We never hear about towns outside of Ponyville except for the bigger city of Fort Vanhoover which is west.
