Knights often carried a small token of their lady love, known as a "
lady's favour", into battle, hidden in their clothes under their armour or inside their helmet. Usually a piece of jewelry, a hair ribbon, even a perfumed handkerchief, it served as a promise to return from battle safe and alive. That's a rather girly clout for a fellow to wield-- methinks this lady knight has a
girl waiting back home for her.
