AJ came off as dumb.

Habit is an iron shirt?

I think my complaint is less the moral and more how AJ's routines came off as a bunch of OCD rituals rather than her taking the long way to a destination.  Up till this point, especially in Applebuck Season, her work was hard and tedious but not unnecessary.  Now it makes her look like half the reason she busts her ass is because she's a borderline idiot.

Yeah, I see that too.  I always thought Applejack was a hard worker, and I know she is, but now I question if she is just doing busywork and being dumb.  Maybe she is just doing things stupidly because it is unnecessary.  I don't know...

Maybe it's just the way she was taught... although if this is true, wouldn't that send kids a pretty bad message of "Your elders are full of it and just because this is how they've always done it and how they've told you to do it doesn't mean that it's the best or even the most efficient way"? Learning new things is are hard for me, because I always find some reason to complain that "the old ways was better", and I'm never really happy. Applejack has always struck me as a bit stubborn and a "traditional values"-- a gal after my own heart, with a lease on several other organs.

I just watched the episode.

Guys guys... That one spa pony, the male one with the towels... He's kinda cute. I really liked his design and voice. Just... Unf.

And also, what the fudge AJ? I thought you were an expert farmhand, why are you doing all this stupid stuff? I mean, the chickens and the fence I understand, and maybe the irrigation system, but what the hell with the pigs? I mean, I get the lesson, but seriously? You'd think it'd be Rarity, or even Twilight doing these dumb things. It wasn't a bad episode, it was just... Bizarre.

I think they could have done the same lesson without making Applejack look so dumb.  That was my biggest flaw with the episode, otherwise I loved it.  :)

I liked the spa pones. :D

Eh, I figure it was written all obviously dumb and silly to make it funnier for kids watching the show.  It still could've been done better, though off the top of my head I can't really come up with a better example.  But that's why I'm not making the big bucks as a show writer!

I feel I could have come up with better examples that were not so far fetched.  I know why they did far fetched examples, so that the dumb viewer would certainly not get the wrong ideas.

I'd agree if the spa hadn't had such a believable problem.

It isn't their expertise to know plumbing issues.

Just like I would almost not know nuclear fission issues...

That's my point though.  The Spa had a problem that made sense once AJ explained it, and as you said, the spa ponies don't know how plumbing works.  You can see something like that actually happening.
AJ knows how plumbing works yet couldn't figure out how to work her own irrigation system?  Yet Twilight and Rarity could?  That's really where my gripe comes from, it's like AJ's normal character is too reasonable so they had to make her dumb as a brick at the end to force the moral.

Applejack knows farming, yet she was as dumb as a doorknob when it came to actually carrying out her various farm tasks.  I understand the point and what everyone is saying now.  It is really a shame they did that to probably one of the best pones there is.

They drilled it in the heads of little kids.  They were thinking little kids were absolutely stupid.  I think in some aspects, kids now days are smarter then we all were as kids, in other aspects, not.

It was an okay episode.  I feel Applejack came off as completely dense, but it was nice to see so many characters brought back up again and shown.  7/10.
