It's like having someone you care about on your online community just go and be ripped away.  I mean, so many of us are so close, and we all make this place special.  To have such a big name and good friend go would be devastating.

Agreed 100%.  Especially someone who brings so much to the table, contributes, is fun to talk too, and makes conversations like... UBER AMAZING.  It would have been horrible.
