I dislike how it learns and steals. I have no problem for people to use it as a tool to maybe help them learn perspective or to see their own creations in a different way / creativity ideas, but how it steals and seems so impersonal are what get to me.
As you are also someone who is an artist, I agree with this take. It can be used as a learning tool or to help figure out a design element or perspective. But the artist's original work should not contain ai in it. They need to hand draw.
This seems like a similar conundrum to how early artist's often trace or simple change minor things to characters they already like.
Now we created an Ai Artwork area for people who don't draw and create ai content. As long as they are not stealing and make it themselves, that is fine. PSF realizes this is part of our future, whether we like it or not.
Many of us start of as *tracers* you see a character you wanna draw it, but don't know how to, so you follow the lines of the original art.
Its a hidden secret of most, we've done it at least once or twice as a kid.
And the art that look like the real thing; Sonic copycats Lion King, those I'm a tad irked with cause people don't develop their own style.
But ai is another level cause its a generator, like those pokémon fusion things, its a generator and it steals from existing art work that's where the issue is. If it used a database made for ai art, like royalty free music on youtube, there is a place to get stuff made for it. There should be the same for ai art...
That plus artists are being brushed off about it. Many artists spend months on some art pieces and then the ai generator takes it or pieces of it. Again if it was a physical thing, people would throw hands. But because its digital its *eh*
That's why it stings
