I thought about including SISU, but I wasn't sure if they had a current truck to keep up with the other modern trucks, and I wasn't sure how well they sell outside of Finland. I know the Finnish make great stuff, but I didn't know for sure on their trucks. Is the Sisu Polar capable for highway driving?

GINAF sells a truck which is the same as the older Ford Cargo.  I didn't know if GINAF made highway trucks. :P But aren't they mostly just DAF trucks now?

In the olden days, Dodge, GMC, Chevrolet, and Ford all used to make semi trucks in North America.  They all had success at it too.  So it's weird they all stopped doing it.

That old movie, Convoy, has some truck brands I didn’t even know before I looked at IMCDB page for this movie ;D.
Like Brockway or Diamond.

The funny thing with GINAF is the fact when they used DAF cabs, their trucks were often confused with DAFs, now the same is with Ford Cargo.
BTW, there is another historical property: the same trucks made by Magirus, UNIC, FIAT and OM just before all their factories were united under the new brand — IVECO ;D.

There is another truck brand in the US that is slowly branching out.  There are rumors that the Toyota owned, HINO truck brand wants to make a heavy duty American highway truck.  They are getting closer all the time, especially with their latest truck, the XL. https://www.hino.com/hino-trucks-xl-series.html

Oh @timmelon, back in the old days, before I was born, there used to be dozens and dozens of truck brands.  There used to be hundreds of different auto makers too!  It was the wild west of vehicles!  I've never even heard of Brockway but I did know of Diamond.  There are so many brands I don't know.  lol.  I don't promise to be a car/truck person compared to others here.

So do we know if SISU sells outside of Finland and does highway trucks?

GINAF still just confuses me to be honest, lol.

As I understand, GINAF and SISU (i see some official dealers only in Finland and Norway ) make only heavy-duty trucks with their own chassis, but using the secondary elements made by others. SISU, for example, used Renault Premium cabs when this truck was in production.
Japanese highway truck is apparently going to be something like Honda Shadow or Suzuki Boulevard among Harley motorcycles.

I looked at IMCDB page for this movie ;D.
Like Brockway or Diamond.

I love that website more than IMDB.  ;D

I just searched some old truck brands.  So cool.

Here is two Diamond brand trucks.

Chevy had cabovers and conventional.

Dodge's trucks were very unique.  I loved how MASSIVE the front looked compared to the cab.  They did conventional and cab overs too.

Ford's I remember seeing up into the 90s with their cabover and conventional trucks.  But they've stopped now.

GMC had cabover and conventional as well.  Very boxy. This is essentially the same as the Chevy variants.

I found this reason as to why the traditional American car brands stopped making heavy duty semi trucks and left it to Kenworth, Peterbilt, etc.

"Ford's reason (& I imagine it goes for the others, too?) was that the floor space taken up was expensive & better used for cars & light trucks. Big trucks use big components. Bug trucks need hevier-duty forklifts & hoists to handle the heavier engines, transmission & axles.

Ford has a big plant in Louisville KY that used to produce their large trucks. That's why their class 8 trucks used an “L” to denote the series. L-9000..anyhow, the square footage used to assemble large units was out of proportion to the the revenue generated. So they sold their class 8 stuff to Freightliner, who kept them going branded as “Sterling” for a few years.

It was something like 40% of the floor was used to produce class 8s, but only resulted in 15% of Ford's revenue…so they ditched the Biggie's to dedicate more floor to produce F150s. Looking back now, it was a wise move, because F150s are their best selling product!

But it is sad that GM, Dodge & Ford all got out if the market for big trucks. They all had rich histories in trucking."

[excited] lol!  Japanese Highway trucks are amongst the smallest in the world, right up there with other Asian countries.

Some of the coolest big rig trucks are in Australia.  I love their road trains!

The "Art" in some of the old trucks is very interesting.  I mean, at least they tried to make them look beautiful... or something.

We've come a long way from this type of stuff.

I wonder if Japanese trucks even have sleeping quarters?  Do they even have truck stops?  If you think length and weight restrictions are tough in Europe, you haven't been to Japan! :D

Looks like we have more "PSF is a trucking forum" content.

I honestly haven't heard of GINAF nor have I heard of Diamond or Brockway.  There is so much trucking stuff I don't know... but someone who might actually know since she works for a trucking logistics company.... @Soda!

This looks like how I make-shift tools and devices to move heavy things across my property where I can't use a pickup.  lol

Look at those wheels and how fragile it all looks.  I can't imagine they could haul a whole lot of weight.  I wonder what they could haul with this truck?

Puff corn 8). You don’t need to have a big tough truck to carry this awesome type of cargo ;D.

I have already told it’s Peterbilt Scania Forum.
