It's not so much a big butt joke as acknowledging umbrellas are not designed to accommodate those with more than two feet. Even two average-sized humans have to scrunch together under one of them, risking wet shoulders for their trouble.

The joys of being a small person. But yes, it is a pain to try and fit two people under one umbrella. But I hold my umbrellas differently, I hold it half above/in front of me. And I find that creates the best coverage.

I do the same thing if I use an umbrella.

This is a rough list just by a quick passing glance.  Lol!  Biggest at the top, smallest at bottom.  This is how I determined what I did.  Here.  I did not count the original AT&F series 1 comics. (When she was rounder and non show styled)  I used side, front views (seeing how much sticks out) and back views to make a judgement, though i didn't spend more then ten minutes on this and it's not really in depth.

MARES

Twilight
Starlight Glimmer (She's actually got a pretty big one in this series)
Octavia (It can be the largest, but it depends on the artist who draws it)
Vinyl Scratch
Applejack
Rainbow Dash
Lyra
Rarity (It is soft though!)
Pinkie Pie
Bon Bon
Cadance

STALLIONS
Big Mac (It is square though)
Shining Armor
Soarin'
Greg
Spike

I did pretty much just say I think there are at least two different artists who draw this series.  One of the artists is more show accurate, and the other or others are not and a tad more messy in style.

I think you would be better at it.  I just sort of did quick glances.  Some I didn't know, cause it was hard to tell.

I see a list, and I have no idea what order they should be in.  Lol!

You included stallions?  Is there enough to even compare?

That Mom's a jerk!  Wow!  Love her last expression (the mom).  I like how normally sized Twilight looks.  She isn't fat.

She's shown to be even skinnier in today's comic. More twiggy legs and stuff. I wonder if that was to make the joke more funny or something.

You've been saying that since day one, and there does seem to be different art styles.  Though she does look leggy in other variants too.  I think she looks kind of cute in this one.
