Am I the only one started to get that nagging 'you're overdoing it, author' with Twi?  I feel like a lot of her problems she doesn't make any sort of effort to fix....
I'd rather see her failing at these things and then feeling sad then just 'hey Twilight's sad again, feel sad for her'.   Especially if she only fails a little and its comically.

Man, we really obsess over this series. I hope she can get our vibes and feels good about herself ^^

Meh.. I'm afraid it's a case of Status Quo is God.  Charlie Brown will never kick the football, Batman will never kill the Joker, Gilligan and the crew will never leave the island*, and Twilight may be forever doomed to be a loser. If she ever found true happiness I think it'd be the final strip of the series. It'd be a beautiful ending, but an ending nonetheless.

*Okay, they did in the reunion movie. But then they wound up back on the damn thing. And then they turned it into a popular tourist resort.  And then the Howells suddenly have a son they never had before, and there's the Harlem Globetrotters and basketball-playing robots on the island.   And then the Professor built a rocketship out of bamboo and coconuts and they went into space, where they got stranded on an alien planet.  And don't get me started on how after Tina Louise walked away from the series, every successive Ginger from then on seemed to get younger and younger.

Oh I meant the artist, like I hope that they feel good about themselves. Not Twilight haha.

I'm not expecting Twilight to find happiness, I just think the lack of jokes and just 'hey look, Twilight is sad and there's nothing else' is happening a bit too often.  I've seen other comics go down this road and it gets painful after awhile, I hope they don't do that.

Today's comic was pretty cute.

I've seen more jokes then anything personally.  They don't just have Twilight sad for no reason, and something when it is done, it is to depict emotion and relate to readers feeling.

Sharing emotion and feeling is something very complicated in a drawing.  Yes, you can do expressions, but they are always over exaggerated.  To capture true emotion, you have to do more then just expression, and this series does it.

I've seen more original jokes in this series then most I've read.  So it hasn't gotten old to me, and I don't see it doing that any time soon.

Everyone likes different types of series.  I like this because it is slice of life, like all the time.  It is relatable.  Even if I don't relate directly to Twilight, I relate to aspects of her, or her friends.  I love that.

Today's comic was a good one, and there are inspirational times in this series, which I love.  It is very original at times too.  Anyone notice how Pinkie Pie's name was crossed off in today's comic?

I think it's that Kyrl doesn't really see Twilight trying. She just sits there and mopes. Like the crowd comic, she just expected people to walk up and talk to her while sitting there. Meanwhile Lyra tries to get attention but instigating. Twilight just mopes. And when it's just that, it's boring. Have her do something. Like, some of the lonely comics are effective because she tried and failed at something or someone said something or she's having a bad day and Spike cheers her up. With some it's just "look. Twilight is sad. Feel bad."

Most of the series thankfully isn't that, but it's slipping into Status Quo is God with having Twilight always sad. Sure, Charlie Brown never kicks the football and never really gets a break, but he tries. And he keeps trying despite having a down outlook on life. Twilight really doesn't. And that's where it starts to get boring. Thankfully it hasn't happen to an excess where it is noticeable, but I think it could head that way if they don't make Twilight try to change or do more things than just sit in a crowd and expect people to talk to her then get sad because no one talks to the person sitting in the middle of the freaking road.

And if it risks making Twi a sob story, we thankfully have that whole host of other characters that are all interesting to read about.  Hope they go into them more too.

Like the crowd comic, she just expected people to walk up and talk to her while sitting there. ..,some of the lonely comics are effective because she tried and failed at something or someone said something or she's having a bad day and Spike cheers her up. With some it's just "look. Twilight is sad. Feel bad."... Twilight [needs to] try to change or do more things than just sit in a crowd and expect people to talk to her then get sad because no one talks to the person sitting in the middle of the freaking road.
I don't think she was literally sitting there in the middle of a crowd. I took it as a visual metaphor for that feeling we have of being surrounded by people yet still being lonely inside. The spotlight is Twilight's veneer of aloofness... that cold, hard shell between her and the world, whether self-imposed or put there by society.  After all, she is a Princess, with rules to follow and duties to perform and she probably needs to compartmentalize a lot.  Spike may be the only one allowed to glimpse within that barrier and see the real Twilight, who is tired and terribly flawed and has dreams and hopes and wants love and is maybe a touch depressed.

Today's comic showed Twilight as all business, not a trace of self-doubt, right on top of the boiling Yakyakistan situation.  She's never been more of a Mom than in this moment, running about and talking about dinner's in the fridge and emergency numbers  and Grandma and Grandpa and be good, son. She lies for these moments, you can tell.

Soda once asked me if I were a Pony in this strip, would I be her friend and cheer Twilight up when she'd blue.  I say if she'd be willing to have a balding, middle-aged stallion who needs glasses, is tired and terribly flawed and has dreams and hopes and wants love, occasionally has back and knee pain, and doesn't do as well with cheese as he used to, I'd be honored.

You got it 110% correct.  That is how I viewed that comic too.

Do you mean she lies or she LIVES for those moments?  It was nice to see her be so driven in this comic, yet she was still nervous, but it didn't stop her from going.  She didn't tell Spike she wasn't leaving or she would stay.  It was a definite, I have to go.  So she does have the power in her, but she doesn't know how to use it for other things.

She lives for them.   Although... very telling slip on my part, I must say. There's always part of Twilight, I'm sure, that wonders if she's living a lie and worrying it could come crashing down at any minute.  I mean, it's not like she's just a crystaller or an adviser to Her Majesties.   To go from an obscure magic school student to an alicorn Princess must be quite daunting.

I think she thinks she is living a lie at times.  Clearly.  She preaches one thing to others, or at least used too, but doesn't exactly live it.
