FINALLY!  Someone gets it!  I never understood why Spike was a baby dragon!  Didn't Twilight get him when she was just a young-in too?  So when Twi says they are about the same age, that makes perfect sense!  Maybe only a few year difference!  It makes sense to me, so it should make sense to you.   Great comic today!  So much could be said about it.... I loved it.

Because Spike is clearly a baby dragon in the series. He's small and pudgy. He's definitely not a teenager. And Twi is probably about 7-10 in he filly flashbacks. And he was just born when he came out. I doubt Twilight is a definite "adult" in the series, which still leaves Spike as a youngling in the series.

Hence, baby dragon. He's clearly much younger than the other dragons we see. And I imagine dragons age slower anyway. Because they're so big. Bigger animals tend to age slower than smaller animals. There's more to develop.

The same age as Twilight just a bit younger? I'm not sure I can buy that. Unless Twilight was like 2 years old when she did that avatar state at her entrance exam, it seems weird. Unless, for her "my age just a few years younger" includes ~5 years.

I know... I wanted to believe.  But this series sort of does it's own thing, and I'm fine with that.  Spike is older in this series then the show.

If getting one's cutie mark is an allegory for a girl getting a period (or, for a guy, I guess the closest equivalent would be a wet dream), then the CMC's would be the equivalent of 11-or 12-year-olds, right?  Twilight was a bit younger than that when she received the egg that would be our little dragon hero.  So there's probably no more than 7 or 8 years difference between them.
