Another post in SCS blog:
New lighting, another part of Germany reskin and a couple of paintjobs — unlike the third one, the first two updates will probably require at least 2-3 weeks of testing, so all we need is to have a little patience, or to stop being a good boy and test a beta by ourselves ;D.
Also, there was a stream, where developers demonstrated some new chassis from yersterday’s post and a Western Star 49X with a sleeper (but didn’t say, will it appear in 1.40 or later):

This is incredible news for ETS!  I cannot WAIT for the new lighting and MORE of Germany being complete.  I can't wait till I can actually WANT to drive through Germany.  I haven't in a very long time. :D I've been in mostly Eastern Europe, southern and northern Europe.

For some reason the Western Star's cab still always looks small up front to me.  I think it is a smaller truck compared to the others still.  But I can't wait to finally drive one once they get that sleeper cab made.

I didn't realize this update on the reskin of Germany would be the last update on this.  Does that mean all of Germany is complete?  I don't drive through Germany much because of how bad it was in the past version of the game.  I might have to go drive through.  I just remember the cities being all the same looking with very old assets and very ugly sidewalks and road walls.  I am excited to read they added new roads too!  If anyone has an image of the old map, we can compare it to the new one when it's done.

I wonder where they will go next?  Belgium?  UK?

I am really curious to see what the new map will look like and which areas I will have to re-explore.

I guess Germany will be complete... but I for some reason thought they were only doing southern Germany and not the northern half?  Am I wrong?

I can't wait to see what this small team has done and if it's good, I hope they move on to other parts of the map.  I know many would love a complete rebuild of the UK... But that is a very tall order to do.

The northern part of Germany had its upgrade in 1.32, being the first big revamped part of the map. ;D
You probably can remember the horrible zigzag-like road at Rostock — it was a great relief when it was remade.

I do remember that road.

So wow... I guess Germany is all done!  I haven't driven through in a few years I guess.

Wow.
So you are the guy for whom the option «add avoidable points» for navigator was added ;D.

^ I've never used that option either, lol.  I just purposely stay away from the old parts of the map.  I like to be immersed.

Aside from new lighting system, new chassis for all trucks and a sleeper for WS 49X, the latter gets an impressive amount of customizable parts, including paintable bumpers! And, if you count both set-forward and set-back front axle options, the number of possible cabin-chassis-tank configuration is really huge!

As an avid ETS2 player... ATS has been so much better this past year in every way.  There is no denying it.  I am really excited for all the updates in both games.  The new Western Star variants looks lovely and I cannot wait for the new lighting in both games.

I am most excited about the Germany rebuild in ETS2.

I am impressed.  The new 1.40 update for ATS looks real good and the Western Star looks like it's finally coming to it's own as a very customizable truck!  It is exciting to see.

Wyoming is a smaller "big" state.  Can't wait for Montana so we can drive around from Colorado through Montana and Idaho into Washington.

Toast on Youtube has a great video showcasing the differences between the 1.39 version of the game and the new 1.40 with the new lighting.  They also make good videos when there are updates to the game.  So here is their showcase of the lighting changes in ETS2.   What are your thoughts?

Judging from the look of distant objects, now the air is not so transparent as earlier ;D.
