Trucking Simulator Games Discussion

I have ETS, ETS2, and ATS in my Steam library but I have never played them.  I see the community here is HUGE.  Which should I play first, does it matter?  Do you guys have a preference?

Unless you want to play history and work your way up, I would probably skip the original ETS.  I don't want to turn you off from this game series if you haven't played it yet.  The newer ETS2 and ATS are just better in every way.  For presentation, I would probably recommend ATS as there are less older areas that aren't as detailed.  But ETS2 has a ton of variety of environments and country cultures.  They are both different and of course I would recommend you play them both and come up to your own conclusions.

People who live in the US might enjoy some different scenery with ETS2 or if you live in Europe you might enjoy the American scenery and American road trip.  It's fully up to you.  They are both excellent and would rank them 10's either way.  Both different types of great, though similar at their foundations.

We are literally getting everyone on this forum to play these games.

Since these games have no plot, I think ETS is totally displaced by ETS2.
What to choose first? Try ATS, all its map parts are more or less fresh. As I understand, you don't have a lot of map DLCs?

Do you have any DLC or just the base game?

If you have just the base game, I would start with ATS.  They are rebuilding the base map so you will get to experience the new build quality.

The base game of ETS is large, but it's less detailed and to a lesser standard than they have now.  It's much older.

It comes down to your preference, both are great games no matter what.  If you live in one of these countries, or in a particular state that the game has, I think you will find much enjoyment in seeing things you recognize.

All the games are great, but I probably not start with the original ETS.  Start with ATS or ETS2.  Some people have a preference in truck type they want to drive, so that might be a good basis.  In the end, they both other the same options and how to truck.  The difference is the setting, The United States of America or Europe.  The game also has in-game internet radio which really can help immerse you in the game.

If you don't have the DLCs, they go on sale often.  But this game can get expensive if you are starting new and really want the map expansions and all the heavy hauling DLCs.  Thankfully the devs updates their DLCs and throw free stuff in the game ALL the time.

You can play with a mouse and keyboard, game controller, or driving wheel and pedals if you have one.

Thanks guys! I downloaded ATS and ETS2 and will try one of them this weekend.  I don't have any DLC except for New Mexico which came with the bundle.  No DLC for ETS2.

So, it must be something like Forest Machinery DLC? I think I will like it. Of course, these games already have a lot of cargoes for lowboys, flatbeds and even with their own wheels, but who argues that more is better?

Nice. I hope all these tunnels will have all lanes available, not as in Switzerland, when we can meet several annoying road narrowings with a speed limit of 50 km/h. However, the Switzerland rebuild is also coming soon, so a lot of its tunnels may be remade as well, and... we can probably see updated Switzerland before West Balkans .

What is cool is that they can implement this farming DLC through pretty much every state.  The Forest Machinery was key for the Pacific Northwest, but not every other state.

Truck World: Aussie looks good from the tiny bit we've seen.  Curious how their world will look.  Their developers are starting to post blog posts on Steam, but they've lost all the hype and their community is dead because they've disappeared so long.  As a dev team, don't employ radio silence unless you want your project to die.

I have seen some videos of that kind, but this one is made by SCS members . There are not only the fresh WS products we can drive in this game, but also a showcase with heavily customized trucks.

^ I usually don't care for these types of videos much, but I kind of have to admit, I really enjoyed that!  It's neat to see a place where so many trucks come together.  I think it's pretty telling how many of the staff working on the American side of the game have become enamored by the trucks that are foreign to their own shores.  Very neat.
