It stinks down here.  It's hot, humid, sticky, and all the cities look like they've been hit by bomb shells.  Memphis to Jackson.  Little towns are crumbling, tree's growing out of old buildings.  Jackson is a sorry excuse for a state capital, and Memphis does not live up to it's supposed charm.  I just see crime.  So many empty grassy lots where buildings were torn down.  Very disappointing and depressing part of the country.

Yeah.  It was surprising how bad this area is.  I might go to Little Rock for the heck of it, but I can't wait to get back home.  I'd hate to live here. 

I've been to other parts of the south, and while not great, at least the people are good people.  Like the tourist centers of the south look pretty and are beautiful, but here, it's pretty bad.

Yes, the San Juans.  Beautiful islands in up Washington State.

There were a few very nicely kept up roads in Memphis, around the tourist hubs for baseball and music, but outside of that, the city was a dung heap.  Couldn't go a few blocks without seeing crime and police activity.  I would say Jackson looks even worse though.

Jackson is the capital of Mississippi?  I've never been there.  Why is it so bad?

Lets see, the highlights of Jackson are around the capitol campus, it is nicely kept up, even if the streets are all cracks and potholes.  They had a street named Yazoo, downtown... thats pretty cool.  A few core blocks in downtown are nice and there are some nice neighborhoods, but so much abandonment and urban decay.  It's really sad.
